Breath test begins for heavy vehicle drivers entering Chutupalu Valley

Ramgarh: Drivers of heavy vehicles, including trailer trucks, heading towards Chutupalu Valley, would have to undergo breath analyser tests at a toll plaza on NH-33, nearly 2 km from the accident-prone area. The tests are part of the Ramgarh district administration’s immediate road safety measures, police said.SP Mukesh Kumar Lunayat said, “Most accidents reported in Chutupalu Valley involve heavy vehicles. Investigations into the accidents have revealed that speeding and drunk driving were the main reasons. Hence, speed monitoring and breath analyser tests would help curb accidents. Drivers found drunk would be fined and not be permitted to drive, as drunk driving is strictly prohibited under road safety rules.”Ramgarh DC Rituraj, SP Mukesh Kumar Lunayat, and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) project director Vijay Kumar recently inspected the Chutupalu Valley stretch and discussed effective measures to reduce accidents.DC Rituraj also held a meeting with Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) officials, transport companies and truck owners, directing CCL officials and transporters to ensure drivers follow traffc rules.Recently, eight members of a Tasha band musical group were killed near Barling village under Rajrappa police station limits in Ramgarh district when a speeding truck hit the pick-up van in which the group was travelling.
