Bokaro police intensify late-night bar checks for excise compliance

Bokaro: Late-night inspections were carried out at all licensed bars in the city as police intensified monitoring of compliance with excise rules and operating norms.Acting on the instructions of Bokaro SP, Nathu Singh Meena, the drive was led by DSP (city) Rajeev Ranjan along with a police team. During the surprise checks, officers verified adherence to licence conditions, permitted operating hours and other statutory provisions.“Bar operators were strictly directed to shut operations within the prescribed time limit. We also issued a clear warning that any violation of timings or licence conditions would invite legal action under relevant provisions of law,” said Ranjan.Bokaro currently has seven licensed bars operating under excise regulations, apart from around 75 liquor retail shops spread across the district. These establishments form a key part of the local excise revenue network.According to official excise data, bars in Bokaro alone reported the sale of 5,408 bulk litres (BL) of beer and 1,104 BL of liquor in a single month, generating an estimated revenue of around Rs 22 lakh.Meena said that such inspection drives are part of routine enforcement to ensure discipline in night operations and prevent violations related to over-serving and late-hour functioning, while maintaining regulatory compliance across licensed establishments.Police have repeatedly flagged the issue of drunk driving as a road safety concern. Routine checking at key traffic points has been launched, especially during late night, and police teams also monitor movements near liquor shops to curb drinking on the roadside.Police officers said that enforcement action, combined with surprise inspections, is aimed at discouraging violations both inside licensed outlets and on roads. Bar operators, on the other hand, are being urged to ensure strict compliance, responsible service, and cooperation with law enforcement agencies to prevent legal action and maintain public order at night.
