Jamshedpur: Forty-three police personnel from the traffic branch were transferred to various police stations and the crime control room (CCR) in East Singhbhum district on Monday. The transfers were ordered by SSP Ehtesham Waquarib at a time when the district administration and police are facing criticism over their alleged failure to curb crime following last week’s stabbing at a bar in Bistupur, which led to the death of 24-year-old Himanshu Singh.Police sources said the personnel were shifted from the traffic branch to strengthen night patrolling and special drives against criminals in the city, launched after the incident.According to the order issued by the SSP, the traffic police personnel were posted at Sakchi, Telco, Bistupur, Golmuri, Jugsalai, Sundarnagar, Azadnagar, Govindpur and Burmamines police stations, all of which fall under the urban circle. Several personnel were also transferred to rural police stations, including Ghatsila, Patamda, Musabani, Dumaria, Kamalpur, Potka, Kovali, Gudabanda, Galudih and Shyamsundarpur.Several officers were posted at the CCR in Sakchi, while a few others were transferred to the Police Centre in Golmuri.Deputy SP (Traffic) Sriniraj Kumar said there was an immediate need to reinforce police stations for effective crime control, prompting the transfers.“The situation will be reviewed in the coming days and, accordingly, appropriate steps will be taken to strengthen traffic policing,” Kumar said.
