Man held captive for 5 days over Rs 3 lakh rescued in Daltonganj, accused arrested

Daltonganj: A 25-year-old man was rescued from illegal confinement after being held captive for five days, allegedly by a labour supplier seeking to recover Rs 3 lakh he claimed was owed to him. The accused was arrested and sent to judicial custody, police said on Tuesday.Palamu SP Kapil Chaudhary said the victim, Upender Bhuiyan, 25, was rescued by Daltonganj town police late on Monday night following an FIR lodged by his father, Gopal Bhuiyan. The accused, Amresh Yadav, 34, allegedly confined Upender in a room in the Bara Lota area and kept it locked from the outside. “Upender was only given some food and water just to keep him alive,” the SP said.According to Chaudhary, Yadav claimed that Upender owed him Rs 3 lakh and confined him in an attempt to recover the unpaid amount. Police said the two reportedly fell out over a financial dispute.Yadav works as a labour supplier. Upender is a resident of the Paton police station area, while Yadav belongs to the Ramgarh police station area of Palamu district. The SP said the confinement appeared to be preplanned as Yadav allegedly chose a location under Daltonganj town police station limits instead of areas falling under either Paton or Ramgarh police stations.“He kept him under the town police station limits to avoid detection as he had never thought Upender’s father would lodge the FIR,” Chaudhary said.A case has been registered against Yadav under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita,or BNS. He was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody on Tuesday.
