Jamshedpur: In an effort to restore public confidence following a series of crimes, including the murder of a 24-year-old man in a bar clash in late June, East Singhbhum police have launched a community policing initiative in the city and across the district.Acting on the directions of SSP Ehtesham Waquarib, meetings with prominent citizens and peace committee members were conducted in all police station areas from July 13 to 15. The meetings were chaired by the deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) of the respective subdivisions.ASP Rishab Trivedi said the initiative aims to strengthen coordination between police and citizens, promote cordial relations and enhance mutual trust and cooperation.“The initiative has been launched on the directions of the SSP to make community policing more effective and strengthen coordination with citizens,” Trivedi said.He warned of strict action against those involved in the brown sugar trade, illegal gatherings and other unlawful activities. He also cautioned that shops operating beyond 11 pm in violation of regulations would face stringent action.A meeting held at Sonari police station on Tuesday evening discussed crime control, security arrangements and preventive measures.Addressing residents, DSP (headquarters-2) Manoj Kumar stressed the importance of public participation in crime prevention. “People should immediately inform police about any suspicious activities, criminal incidents or information related to criminals,” he said, adding that timely inputs help police take swift and effective action.During the interaction, residents flagged concerns over rising substance abuse, illegal hangouts, shoplifting, chain snatching and house break-in. Police officers said several suggestions were received from the public and assured that concrete measures to address these issues would be implemented at the earliest.
