Tambaram launches self-enumeration for Census 2027; door-to-door survey from August 1
Tambaram Municipal Corporation has initiated the self-enumeration process for the upcoming Census of India 2027 (File Photo).

CHENNAI: Tambaram City Municipal Corporation has begun the self-enumeration process for the first phase of the Census of India 2027.Tambaram Commissioner and Principal Census Officer S Balachander said that Residents can submit their household details online through the Census portal from July 17 to July 31 using a mobile phone or computer. After successful submission, they will receive an 11-digit Self Enumeration (SE) ID via SMS or email, which must be shared with enumerators during the door-to-door survey.The corporation has deployed 1,483 enumerators and 243 supervisors for the exercise. Officials will visit every house and building across the corporation between August 1 and Aug 30. A total of 1,483 house-listing blocks, each covering around 150 to 200 houses, have been created to facilitate the survey.The commissioner has also said residents to cooperate with the census exercise, warning that providing false information, obstructing officials, or tampering with census markings on buildings are offences punishable under the law. The second phase, the population census, will be conducted in February 2027.ust
