Patna: A 20-year-old electrical decorator was stabbed to death allegedly by his neighbour in Patna City’s Khajekalan police station area in the early hours of Tuesday, triggering panic in the locality.The deceased was identified as Suraj Kumar, son of Manohar Lal, a resident of Tikiya Toli in Mogalpura under Khajekalan police station area. According to police, the incident took place around 1am when Suraj was taking a walk in his lane after having dinner. He was allegedly stabbed multiple times with a knife by the miscreant after which he collapsed on the spot.Police suspect that the accused, identified as Akash Kumar, a neighbour of the victim and of the same age, carried out the attack before fleeing the area. The motive behind the murder is still unclear, although investigators are probing the possibility of an old personal rivalry between the two.“The investigation conducted so far indicates that the murder was committed by the victim’s neighbour, Akash Kumar. Efforts are underway to recover the knife used in the crime and arrest the accused at the earliest,” said Shiv Shankar Kumar, SDPO-II of Patna City.Police rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident, cordoned off the area and carried out a forensic inspection. The body was sent to Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) for the postmortem.Investigators are scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding area and questioning local residents and eyewitnesses to reconstruct the sequence of events. Raids are being conducted at suspected hideouts to trace the absconding accused, the SDPO said.
