Ranchi: The first batch of MBBS students admitted under the recently increased intake capacity of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) commenced classes on Tuesday, with the institute inaugurating its foundation course, ‘Aarohan-2026’, for the newly enrolled students.The MBBS intake at Rims was increased from 180 to 250 seats in July, post approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC).The ‘Aarohan-2026’ foundation course will continue till Oct 3. Students will be introduced to communication and soft skills, teamwork, leadership, professional behaviour, ethical values, time management and sensitivity towards patients during the programmeThe foundation course is part of the medical undergraduate education framework prescribed by the NMC and is aimed at helping newly admitted students adapt to the academic environment and understand professional values and responsibilities associated with the medical profession.Rims organised an orientation programme to welcome the students and familiarise them with the institute’s academic system, institutional culture, expectations from medical education and their future responsibilities as doctors, on Tuesday.Rims director Prof Dr D K Singh, welcoming the students, said medical education was not limited to classroom and textbook learning but was also about developing sensitive, ethical and responsible doctors, stressing the importance of discipline, continuous learning, empathy towards patients and teamwork.Dean Prof Dr Rajiv Mishra briefed the students about the institute’s academic traditions and encouraged them to focus on regular study, time management and maintaining positive interactions with teachers and peers.
