Bokaro physiotherapist found hanging in sadar hospital, suicide note cites job uncertainty

Bokaro: A physiotherapist associated with the Sadar Hospital, Bokaro, on contract under the National Health Mission for the past 12 years was found hanging inside the physiotherapy room late Thursday night, police said.Virendra Kumar Mahto, 42, a resident of Sector-1/C, reported for duty at 9 am, treated patients till 3 pm, left and returned around 5.30 pm. When he did not reach home till late night, his family began searching for him. Police tracked his mobile phone to the hospital vicinity before it was switched off. Security guard Vishal Kumar allegedly found Mahto hanging from a ceiling fan. A handwritten suicide note was found from Mahto’s trouser pocket, police added.DSP (City) Rajeev Ranjan said, “The note stated that Mahto had been serving as a contractual employee for the past 12 years and was stressed over uncertainty about regularisation of his job. The authenticity of the note is being investigated.”SP Nathu Singh Meena said, “The body was sent for postmortem. Preliminary probe reveal Mahto had invested several lakhs in share trading and may have suffered losses. Investigators are verifying reports that he transferred Rs 95,000 to his wife’s bank account shortly before the incident.”“CCTV footage revealed Mahto entered the physiotherapy room alone and died by suicide. The case is under probe,” police added.Alleging that Mahto suffered from prolonged mental stress over his contractual employment status, his relatives demanded Rs 50 lakh as compensation and a govt job for one family member.
