Patna: Concerned over rising absenteeism among students, the Magadh University (MU) Post Graduate Teachers’ Association (PGTA) has demanded the introduction of a biometric attendance system to ensure regular classroom attendance. The demand comes at a time when teachers are already required to mark their attendance through biometric devices that record their arrival and departure in real time.A PGTA delegation met officiating vice-chancellor Dilip Kumar Keshari and registrar Binod Kumar Mangalam on Saturday to discuss issues related to teaching and attendance. The delegation included association president Anuj Kumar Tarun, vice-presidents Atul Kumar Srivastava and Alok Ranjan, and general secretary Ravindra Singh.The association urged the university administration to strictly enforce attendance norms, under which students must maintain at least 75% attendance to be eligible for examinations. It also sought greater transparency in the examination form-filling process and insisted that students failing to meet the attendance requirement should not be allowed to appear for exams.According to a university press release, the vice-chancellor and registrar appreciated the concerns raised by the teachers and assured them that appropriate steps would be taken to address the issues.
