Dhanbad: Two persons have been arrested after a 28-year-old man died from injuries sustained in an alleged assault over the suspicion of attempted theft at Jagjivan Nagar in Dhanbad, police said on Sunday.DSP (law and order) Prakash Soye told a news conference that the victim, identified as Karan Kumar, was allegedly caught after entering the house of Kanhai Lal Bhattacharya on Saturday. Police arrested Bhattacharya and Shiv Prakash, suspected to be the main accused, during the investigation. Citing their interrogation, police claimed Karan had entered the house intending to commit theft.Karan was allegedly assaulted with sticks and wooden rods by the occupants, leaving him critically injured. The commotion attracted several residents, some of whom allegedly joined the assault, police said.After receiving information that an injured man was lying in Jagjivan Nagar, police reached the area and identified him as Karan. With the help of his family members and locals, Karan was taken to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH).Doctors referred him to a private hospital for advanced treatment as his condition was critical. He later succumbed to his injuries during treatment. His body was subsequently brought back to SNMMCH for postmortem examination.Police said statements made by the accused during interrogation were being verified against eyewitness accounts and other evidence.Soye said teams were conducting raids at different locations to identify and apprehend others allegedly involved in the assault. Investigators are also reconstructing the sequence of events and examining the role of each person present at the spot to establish individual culpability.“The case is being investigated from all angles, and strict legal action will be taken against everyone found involved,” the DSP said.
