Kolkata: The school education department on Monday issued a notice informing teachers to perform census duties either after class hours or on weekends, so that academic activities are not hampered. Several teachers’ organisations have protested the order that mandates taking on a heavy workload on top of academic responsibilities. Swapan Mandal, general secretary of Census Karmi Oikya Mancha and a school teacher, said: “Workers will boycott census duties if the govt sticks to its decision.”However, school heads welcomed the order. “This order will ensure we can run classroom activities properly,” a school head said.
