RANCHI: Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren on Thursday expressed distress over the devastating floods in Assam and said his government had contributed Rs 3 crore to the CM Relief Fund in the northeastern state.Soren wrote a letter to Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, asserting that his government and the people of Jharkhand stood firmly with Assam during the crisis, news agency PTI reported.He also appealed to citizens and institutions in Jharkhand to come forward and help flood-affected people in the northeastern state.“In this hour of crisis (floods), the government of Jharkhand and the people of the state stand firmly with Assam. In the spirit of cooperation for relief and rehabilitation efforts, the government of Jharkhand has contributed Rs 3 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, Assam,” Soren posted on X.The CM said he was “deeply distressed by the grave crisis arising out of the devastating floods in Assam”.“On behalf of the people of Jharkhand, I express profound condolences to the affected families for the irreparable loss of lives and property in this disaster,” he said.14 districts and 1.6 lakh people were affected by floods in Assam, while the toll rose to 95 with six more deaths.“I also appeal to all capable citizens and institutions of Jharkhand to step forward as much as possible and assist the flood-affected people of Assam. In this time of crisis, holding each other’s hands is our greatest responsibility,” his post read.(With agency inputs)
