Biharsharif: Over 15 days after the murder of a 16-year-old student in Harnaut of Nalanda district, the assailants remain at large, leaving the girl’s family anxious, and police clueless in the case.The girl, Kajal Kumari, daughter of Vashishtha Narayan of Laxmanpur village under Bakhtiyarpur police station area, was found dead with a gunshot wound on her head inside her rented accommodation near the nurse block on Dak Bungalow Road in Harnaut on March 27 morning. She had been staying there for the past two years with her mother and siblings while pursuing her studies. Her father, a loco pilot with the railways, was in Gujarat at the time of the incident.According to police, around 10am residents heard a gunshot. The landlord, Vidyabhushan Sharma, and his wife rushed to the room and found Kajal sitting lifeless on a chair with a bullet injury. A country-made pistol was recovered from a bench barely three feet away from the body, raising suspicion over the nature of the crime.Soon after being alerted, a police team along with Sadar DSP-2 Sanjay Kumar Jaiswal reached the spot. A forensic team collected evidence, and the body was sent to Biharsharif Sadar Hospital for the postmortem.An FIR was lodged by Kajal’s family members, including her uncle, who alleged murder and demanded a thorough investigation. They have ruled out the possibility of suicide and suspect the involvement of unidentified persons.Despite initial questioning of locals and collection of forensic clues, police are yet to make any arrest. Officials said multiple angles, including personal enmity and possible intrusion, are being examined.Family members have urged the district administration and police to expedite the probe and ensure that the culprits are brought to justice at the earliest.
