NEW DELHI: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Wednesday directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to identify suitable land parcels for student accommodation and draw up a plan to develop hostel facilities in coordination with universities.Sandhu held a meeting with DDA officials at Lok Niwas to review options for providing alternative accommodation facilities for students.“Directed DDA to expedite identification of suitable land parcels for PGs (paying guests), prepare an actionable plan, and engage with university officials on provisions of the new Master Plan for developing hostel facilities,” he said in a post on X.The move comes days after a boys’ paying guest accommodation in Satya Niketan collapsed on Sunday, killing seven people and injuring five others.“Our focus is to ensure students have access to safe, affordable and dignified accommodation in Delhi,” Sandhu said.(With PTI inputs)
