Chennai: A 26-year-old woman who allegedly stole a high-end mobile phone from a women’s hostel in Chromepet few days ago was nabbed and handed over to police after she returned on Tuesday to allegedly make another attempt.Police said an expensive phone belonging to an inmate at a hostel in New Colony, Chromepet, went missing two days ago, after which the hostel management lodged a complaint with the Chromepet police. The inmates recalled that a woman named Santoshini from Madurai had visited the hostel seeking work around the time the phone went missing and suspected her involvement.On Tuesday night, she returned to the hostel on the pretext of looking for work and began speaking to the inmates. The women detained and questioned her before handing her over to the Chromepet police.Police said Santhoshini was earlier arrested on charges of assaulting her sister-in-law. She had recently been released on bail and was looking for work in the Chromepet.
