Patna: The East Central Railway (ECR) has enhanced security measures at all major railway stations under its jurisdiction ahead of Independence Day to prevent any untoward incident and ensure safety of passengers.According to ECR principal chief security commissioner-cum-IG RPF Amaresh Kumar, adequate deployment of railway protection force (RPF) and railway protection special force (RPSF) has been made at vulnerable locations, including Patna Junction and other important stations , he said .Under the special security drive, cloak rooms, waiting halls, parcel offices, station lobbies and concourse areas are being kept under strict surveillance by railway security personnel. Vulnerable points are being closely monitored through CCTV cameras installed at stations, he said adding RPF teams have been directed to conduct anti-sabotage checks of empty rakes parked in railway yards.The RPF intelligence wing has deployed staff in plain clothes at major stations to monitor suspicious activities and passenger movement within station premises. Parking areas at Patna Junction and other important stations are being regularly checked by RPF dog squads, IG said adding random frisking of suspicious persons will also be carried out by RPF personnel .As part of the security exercise, dustbins, toilets and unclaimed articles lying abandoned at stations will be frequently inspected by on-duty RPF personnel to detect any suspicious material. “The strength of RPF train escort parties is also being increased and they are being equipped with modern weapons and security gadgets to deal with any emergency situation,” he said.“Unauthorised vendors and beggars will not be allowed to enter station premises during the security period. The RPF security control room will function round the clock to monitor security-related issues and coordinate immediate action whenever required,” Kumar said adding the enhanced security arrangements have been put in place to provide a safe and hassle-free travel experience to passengers during Independence Day celebrations.
