NMC warns Palamu medical college over lack of live CCTV access
MMCH principal Dr Jakka Srinivas Rao said nearly 70 medical colleges across the country had received similar warnings

Daltonganj: National Medical Commission (NMC) has warned authorities of Medinirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH) in Daltonganj for failing to provide uninterrupted live access to its CCTV feeds for remote monitoring, despite having installed the required cameras, sources said. The warning follows a series of NMC observations about alleged shortcomings at the medical college, including infrastructure gaps and faculty shortages.Sources said the commission had last month directed MMCH to install CCTV cameras at designated locations and complete port forwarding to provide it continuous access to live footage. It reportedly warned the institution of regulatory and disciplinary action if it failed to comply.Under NMC norms, a medical college must install at least 25 high-quality CCTV cameras linked to a command and control system. The regulator must be given continuous access to the live feeds, while footage must be stored on a network video recorder for at least 30 days. The system allows NMC to remotely verify teaching activities and faculty attendance on working days.MMCH principal Dr Jakka Srinivas Rao said the college had completed the installation more than a month ago.“We have installed 25 cameras at the locations designated by NMC. The work was completed over a month ago,” Rao told TOI. He said the cameras covered strategic locations, including the main entrance, lecture theatres, laboratories and the faculty lounge.Rao blamed BSNL for the delay in providing live access to the regulator. “BSNL is causing an inordinate delay,” he alleged. He said nearly 70 medical colleges across the country had received similar warnings and claimed that Ranchi’s Rinpas was among the institutions facing the same problem.BSNL acknowledged technical issues and said efforts were under way to resolve them. “Our team is on the job. There are technical glitches, but we are hopeful of providing live access to NMC soon,” BSNL AGM Sanjeev Kumar said.
