Hazaribag: Deputy commissioner Hemant Sati on Thursday directed education department officials to focus on strengthening the reading, writing and foundational learning skills of students enrolled in classes 1 to 5, stressing that strong basics are crucial for better academic performance in higher classes.“Special attention must be given to developing fluent reading and writing skills and a clear understanding of basic subjects among students of Classes 1 to 5. Strong foundational learning is essential for their academic progress. Hence, schools should regularly assess students’ learning levels and take corrective measures wherever required,” the DC said.Chairing a review meeting of the education department, Sati assessed the status of teaching and learning in schools, student and teacher attendance, examination results, textbook distribution, service confirmation, transfers and departmental proceedings.The DC instructed officials and teachers to take special measures to ensure that primary school students can read and write fluently and develop a clear understanding of basic subjects. He emphasised the need for regular assessments to identify learning gaps and implement corrective measures wherever required.Sati also directed officials to improve the performance of high schools by conducting regular tests and monitoring students’ progress. He laid stress on ensuring 100% attendance of students and maintaining the quality of mid-day meals through regular inspections.The DC asked the district education officer and district education superintendent to initiate transfer proceedings, in accordance with govt norms, for teachers who have completed more than 10 years of service in Classes 1 to 8 and over six years in Classes 9 to 12.
