Bihar aims to quadruple economy in four years: CM

Patna: Bihar is on the verge of a major transformation and aims to quadruple its economy over the next four years, CM Samrat Choudhary said on Friday at The Economic Times World Leaders Forum 2026 in New Delhi.Speaking on Bihar’s development roadmap, Samrat outlined priorities in investment, infrastructure, water management, employment, education and women’s empowerment. He said the state was moving ahead with the resolve of “Build Bihar, Believe in Bihar”, with industry and job creation driving its next phase of growth.Samrat said new industrial policies, including those for semiconductors and Global Capability Centres, had been introduced to attract domestic and global investment. The govt is also focused on creating a favourable environment for industries across Bihar.He said four airports were operational, while work was underway on 10 small and large airports and six expressways. The govt has also prepared a plan to generate Rs 7,000 crore to Rs 8,000 crore in mining revenue over five years.The govt plans to develop 12 townships across 3.5 lakh acres with modern facilities, he said. Samrat said the earlier target of 10 lakh jobs and 10 lakh employment opportunities had been surpassed, with 53 lakh people receiving govt jobs and employment before the 2025 election. The new target is 1 crore jobs and employment opportunities in five years.He also highlighted the Sahyog programme, saying 6.42 lakh applications had been received and 96% resolved with a 30-day deadline and strict action, including automatic suspension, against negligent officials.
