Jamshedpur: Union minister of state for defence Sanjay Seth on Saturday inaugurated the 1.4-km-long road overbridge (ROB) at Pitki level crossing in Chandil. The ROB, built at an estimated cost of Rs 708 crore, was scheduled for completion in 2022 but was delayed due to technical hurdles, delays in securing railway block permissions and charges of corruption. The ROB is expected permanent relief from traffic congestions at Pitki railway crossing, which is located on the Chandil-Purulia route on NH-18 and handles more than 3,000 vehicles and 67 trains daily. With the bridge now operational, thousands of commuters travelling through Chandil and along the Tata-Purulia-Dhanbad-Bokaro route are expected to benefit from smoother and faster movement.Seth said the opening of the overbridge would save commuters valuable time and improve traffic flow in the area. He also expressed confidence that the project would boost commercial activities and facilitate the movement of emergency vehicles.
