Dumka: A 50-year-old block development officer (BDO) posted in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district died after he was found in a critical condition on a Deoghar road late on Friday.Police suspect that Rakesh Kumar Choudhary may have consumed a poisonous substance, though the cause of death will be established after the postmortem examination and investigation.A police control room team found Choudhary in a serious condition and rushed him to Deoghar Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. His wife and other family members were subsequently informed and reached the hospital.In her statement to police, Choudhary’s wife alleged that a woman teacher had been in contact with him for several days and had cheated him after gaining his confidence. She claimed that Choudhary had visited the woman’s house on Friday and was later found outside the premises.Police are examining Choudhary’s movements, phone records and the sequence of events preceding his death. Officers said suspected poisoning was one of the angles being investigated, but it was yet to be established whether the death was accidental, suicidal or linked to another circumstance.“The exact cause of death will become clear only after a detailed investigation. We are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident, while the postmortem report will be crucial in determining the cause of death,” Deoghar SDPO Kuldeep Kumar said.Choudhary hailed from Deoghar district’s Mohanpur block. His wife and brother are teachers at govt high schools in Jharkhand. No arrest had been made till the filing of this report.
