NDMC steps up preparations for Brics Summit

New Delhi: Aiming to ensure the city presents a clean, green and safe face to international delegates and visitors, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has stepped up preparations for the upcoming Brics Summit, scheduled to be held Sept 12-13.“The council has put in place coordinated arrangements covering sanitation, beautification, horticulture, infrastructure, electricity, public health, enforcement, parking and round-the-clock monitoring as per international standards,” said NDMC chairperson Manoj Kumar Dwivedi after reviewing the preparations Monday.Dedicated arrangements have been planned for major events associated with the summit, including Brics Bazaar, Brics Run & Ride, Brics Murals and Painting, and Brics Food Festival. “Nodal officers have been appointed for these events and will coordinate with departments and stakeholders for suitable arrangements at the venues,” said an official.Keeping in mind the possibility of rain, NDMC will take preventive measures to minimise waterlogging, maintain effective drainage and remove accumulated leaves and other waste from roads and public spaces.As part of the focused monitoring strategy, 41 major roads have been divided into 14 circles, with a dedicated nodal officer assigned to each circle. “The officers, along with their field teams, will conduct daily inspections and field walks to ensure compliance with prescribed standard operating procedures,” said the official.For enhanced visual appeal, 15 locations have been identified for floral boards, nine for flower fountains and 17 roundabouts for special beautification, landscaping and illumination. “The horticulture plan will focus on seasonal flower plantation, landscaping, greening of brown patches, maintenance of green corridors, pruning of shrubs and installation of decorative planters,” said the official.NDMC will also maintain 24×7 sanitation arrangements, with additional sanitation personnel and special night-duty teams deployed from Sept 9 to 14. Temporary dustbins and mobile toilets will be installed. Brics branding will be displayed on 154 digital screens and around 83 public toilets and common toilet utilities. Special measures will also be taken for removal of stray animals. Backup power arrangements and quick response teams will be available to address electrical and illumination-related issues promptly, said the official.NDMC will work closely with the ministry of external affairs, district authority, Delhi govt, central govt agencies and Delhi Police to ensure smooth traffic movement, security arrangements and effective management of public spaces. A dedicated control room and 24×7 command and control centre will monitor civic services in real time. CCTV surveillance, field reports and regular inspections by senior officers will support rapid identification and resolution of issues.“We appeal to market traders’ associations, RWAs and other entities in NDMC area to actively participate in cleanliness and civic-management efforts and help showcase the best face of New Delhi during the event,” said Dwivedi.
