New Delhi: Traffic movement from NH-9 towards Sarai Kale Khan is likely to remain heavy, with Delhi Traffic Police issuing an advisory in view of ongoing work related to Barapullah Elevated Road extension.According to the advisory, congestion and slow movement are expected on the NH-9–Sarai Kale Khan stretch. Commuters have been advised to avoid the stretch wherever possible, take alternative routes and follow the directions of traffic personnel deployed at the spot.The disruption comes as work on the long-delayed Barapullah elevated road project enters its final stages. Phase-III of the corridor involves an elevated road connecting Mayur Vihar Phase-I with Sarai Kale Khan, where it links with the existing Barapullah corridor. The project is aimed at providing a signal-free connection between east and south Delhi and improving connectivity for commuters travelling between Noida/Ghaziabad and south Delhi.Once fully operational, the corridor is expected to ease traffic pressure on NH-24, DND Flyway and Ring Road and reduce travel time between east Delhi and AIIMS. The three-lane elevated corridor has multiple loops at Sarai Kale Khan and Mayur Vihar to facilitate movement in different directions.However, the construction activity is likely to put additional pressure on the surface-level road network in the interim, particularly on traffic approaching Sarai Kale Khan from NH-9.
