Dumka: A 20-year-old woman died after developing complications following a caesarean delivery at a private hospital in Jamtara district, triggering protests by her family members on Tuesday. The bereaved relatives alleged medical negligence and demanded a thorough inquiry and compensation.The deceased, Sunita Marandi, was a resident of Bhandaro village under Jamtara town police station limits. She was married to Mukesh Hansda (25).According to family members, Sunita was admitted to the private hospital in Jamtara on Aug 21 for childbirth. She underwent a caesarean section and gave birth to a baby boy. Her condition deteriorated after a blood vessel was damaged during the surgery.They claimed that the hospital referred her to a higher medical centre on the night of Aug 22. She was subsequently admitted to a hospital in Dhanbad for further treatment, where she succumbed to complications on Monday night.The family also alleged that the hospital had fixed the cost of delivery and post-operative care at Rs 28,000, of which Rs 22,000 had already been paid during her admission.On Tuesday, family members brought Sunita’s body to the hospital and staged a protest, accusing the management of failing to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding her treatment.The protest later spilled onto the Dumka-Jamtara road near Udalbani, where aggrieved relatives blocked traffic for several hours. Vehicular movement was disrupted and tension prevailed in the area as protesters remained firm on their demands for action against those responsible.Jamtara civil surgeon Dr S K Mishra said he was unaware of the incident. “I will look into the matter and appropriate action will be taken if any negligence is found on the part of the hospital,” he said.Jamtara SDPO Wasim Raja said police personnel were deployed at the blockade site and efforts were underway to restore normal traffic movement.
