NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places across several states on Saturday, August 29, with Odisha, parts of the Northeast, Jharkhand, Bihar and Chhattisgarh likely to receive significant rain.Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is expected over parts of eastern, central, western and southern India, while thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are likely over several regions.IMD forecast for SaturdayHeavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Uttarakhand, Gangetic West Bengal and Sikkim.Odisha is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. Heavy rain is also expected over parts of the Northeast, with isolated heavy rainfall likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.Thunderstorms and lightning are likely over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and the Northeast. Gusty winds are also likely over parts of eastern and southern India.North India rain forecastUttarakhand is likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall on Saturday, with thunderstorms and lightning possible in isolated areas. Himachal Pradesh may see isolated to scattered rainfall.Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad are likely to receive isolated to scattered rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning in some areas.Central India forecastEast Madhya Pradesh is likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall on Saturday, with isolated heavy rainfall possible. West Madhya Pradesh may see isolated to scattered showers, while thunderstorms and lightning are likely over parts of Madhya Pradesh.Chhattisgarh is also likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall, with isolated heavy rain and thunderstorms possible.Vidarbha may receive fairly widespread rainfall, with isolated heavy rain possible.Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha weatherBihar is likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall on Saturday, with isolated heavy rain and thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds possible.Jharkhand is likely to see fairly widespread rainfall, with isolated heavy rain and gusty winds.Odisha is likely to remain under a heavy-rain watch, with heavy to very heavy rainfall possible at isolated places. Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely over several parts of the Northeast.West India forecastKonkan and Goa are likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall on Saturday.Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Saurashtra and Kutch may see isolated to scattered rainfall.South India rain forecastCoastal Karnataka is likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall on Saturday, while Kerala and Mahe and Lakshadweep are also expected to see widespread rainfall.Isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, North Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal and Telangana.Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. North Interior Karnataka may also see thunderstorms and lightning, while gusty winds are possible over parts of South Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.Fishermen warningThe IMD has advised fishermen against venturing into several parts of the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. Dangerous sea conditions are likely along and off the Somalia and Oman coasts and over parts of the westcentral and southwest Arabian Sea.In the Bay of Bengal, fishermen are advised to avoid waters off south Tamil Nadu, the Gulf of Mannar, the Comorin area, parts of the southwest Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea. Rough conditions are also expected along and off West Bengal and north Odisha from August 30 to September 1.IMD’s latest forecast for the next few daysRainfall activity is expected to remain active across several parts of the country through September 2.Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall during this period. Odisha may experience isolated very heavy rainfall through August 31.In the Northeast, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is expected over Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura through September 2, while Assam and Meghalaya are likely to receive widespread rainfall from August 29-31.In northwest India, Uttarakhand is likely to receive widespread rainfall through September 2, while heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from August 30 onwards.
