Dhanbad: A Raksha Bandhan interaction with district officials brought an unexpected return gift for schoolgirls from Upgraded Middle School at Bhalgora in Jharia — the restoration of their midday meals. The girls were among students from 25 schools who visited the deputy commissioner’s office on Aug 25 to tie rakhis to senior officials. While speaking to DC Aditya Ranjan and SSP Prabhat Kumar, they complained that midday meals at their school had stopped after burglars broke into the kitchen on Aug 21 and stole cooking utensils and a motor pump used for water supply. The students said they had been going home without lunch since the theft as the school could no longer prepare meals. Taking note of their complaint, Kumar immediately directed local police to coordinate with the school and arrange the missing items at the earliest.Police personnel subsequently visited the school, assessed its requirements and procured new utensils and a pump. The items were handed over to the school on Saturday, clearing the way for the midday meals to resume.School’s in-charge headmistress Rita Prasad thanked the district administration and Dhanbad police for their prompt response. “The gesture reflected the police department’s sensitivity towards students’ welfare,” she said.
