BJP workers assaulted, robbed by armed gang in Kolkata’s Tiljala

Kolkata: A group of BJP workers were allegedly assaulted and robbed of Rs 50,000 by an armed gang of nearly 20 miscreants in the Tiljala area late on Wednesday.The incident took place around 11 pm near premises 168 on Tiljala Road, as the victims were returning home from their local party office. According to a written complaint submitted by Om Prakash Singh (42), he and his colleagues — Sujan Roy and Jitendra Prasad — were discussing arrangements for a “Sawan Maas” community event when a group of men allegedly began observing them with hostility. The victims claimed the accused were part of this group and knew they would be carrying cash.As the three men stepped onto the street, a mob of around 20 miscreants allegedly approached them and launched an attack using iron rods, sharp instruments and heavy blunt objects.Singh sustained severe injuries, including swelling across his body, deep cuts on his feet and bleeding from his eyes. Roy and Prasad suffered blunt-force trauma, bruising and other injuries from physical blows and iron rods.During the assault, the miscreants allegedly snatched around Rs 50,000 from Singh, money collected from local residents to organise the festival, along with his gold chain. The attackers also allegedly robbed Sujan Roy of Rs 3,200 and his wristwatch.The victims said the assault occurred within the range of CCTV cameras and that medical examination reports had been secured to support their allegations. They alleged that the perpetrators were using local manpower and influential backing to evade accountability.Following the complaint, an FIR was registered at Karaya PS, and a few men were detained. Police said they had collected credible CCTV footage. The victims have sought immediate legal action against all those involved.
