Chennai: PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss flayed successive state govts for their alleged failure to protect Pallikaranai marsh and asked if the govts were `unfit’ to do conserve the marshland.Anbumani Ramadoss who led an awareness rally in Chennai demanding the notification of Pallikaranai marsh, questioned the reason for not `protecting’ the marsh. “Will you adopt the same approach if it was your own land?’’ he asked the state govt. Pasumai Thayagam president Sowmiya Anbumani also participated in the rally.Anbumani then questioned the silence of chief minister C Joseph Vijay on Cauvery issue. “Why is he not convening the all party meeting?’’ he asked. Anbumani said Vijay should not remain silent just because the state govt has approached the Supreme Court against Mekedatu dam. “We should exert political pressure too,’’ he said. He said that Vijay should take his ministers to New Delhi and meet Prime minister Narendra Modi to prevent Mekedatu dam.On the shelved Parandur airport plan, Anbumani said a water body spread across 5000 acres should be created in the place where the govt had acquired land for the airport. “We disagree with govt’s plan to set up industries in the land acquired for airport. Instead the water bodies located in the land should be connected and a huge lake should be created. This will address water requirements for Chennai,’’ he said.
