Mumbai: The cutoff for MBBS admissions in Maharashtra has risen sharply this year, with the open-category cutoff for govt medical colleges climbing to 538 marks in the first merit list, up from 509 last year.The State Common Entrance Test Cell, conducting medical admissions, has released the first selection list. The rise is visible across most categories in govt colleges, a reflection of the Re-Neet and increased cutoffs.The OBC cutoff has also increased from 505 last year to 533 this year, while the SEBC cutoff has gone up from 504 to 529. The EWS cutoff has risen from 488 to 513. For SC candidates, the cutoff has increased from 431 to 463, while for ST candidates it has jumped from 342 to 384.In private unaided medical colleges, the increase has been far more modest. The open-category cutoff has moved from 479 last year to 482 this year.The OBC cutoff for MBBS admissions in Maharashtra has dipped marginally from 479 to 476, while the SEBC cutoff has fallen from 477 to 462. The SC cutoff has increased from 423 to 437 and the ST cutoff from 329 to 358.Despite the rise over last year, this year’s cutoffs remain substantially lower than those recorded in 2024. The open-category cutoff in govt colleges was 642 in 2024, while it stood at 602 in private colleges.The CET Cell is conducting admissions to 8,129 MBBS seats across 65 colleges in the state. In the first round, 8,065 seats were allotted, leaving 64 seats in the persons-with-disabilities and orphan categories vacant.For BDS admissions, 28 colleges are participating in the first round, with a total of 2,517 seats. Of these, 2,444 seats have been allotted, while 73 seats under the disability, orphan and institutional quotas remain vacant.Candidates who have been allotted seats in the first round will have to report to their respective colleges between Aug 31 and Sept 4 with their original documents and the required fee in the form of a demand draft to confirm admission.On bank holidays, colleges will be permitted to accept payment by cheque. However, candidates will have to replace the cheque with a demand draft on the next working day. Failure to submit the demand draft could result in cancellation of admission, the CET Cell said.
