BMC’s Tree Authority okays proposal to cut 251 trees and transplant 48 trees for BARC road connectivity project in Mumbai

Mumbai: The BMC’s Tree Authority on Tuesday approved the cutting of 251 trees and transplantation of 48 trees for Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) Old Mandala to New Mandala Road connectivity project by the Department of Atomic Energy .An advertisement regarding the proposal was published in newspapers inviting suggestions and objections, but none were received. According to the proposal, in lieu of the proposed cutting of 251 trees and replanting of 48 trees, 2,211 new trees will be planted within 15 days from the date of felling. The height of the newly planted trees will not be less than 6ft, and they will be of local species. An undertaking has been submitted stating that the replanted trees will also be planted on the same land.The Tree Authority has also issued a public notice regarding a proposal to cut 12 trees for the development of a data centre for Amazon in Powai.
