Ranchi: To ensure an uninterrupted power supply across Jharkhand, the state power distribution utility has set up a specialised daily monitoring mechanism to keep tabs on electrical feeders.Acting on the directives of K Srinivasan, managing director of Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL), a four-member committee has been constituted to strictly oversee all 11 kV and 33 kV feeders state-wide. The committee monitors grid operations, tripping, outages, voltage quality, and other technical issues.”JBVNL executive director (O&M) and chairperson of the committee Sudhir Kumar Singh, said, “We monitor feeders across the state on a daily basis to identify the outage time, and pin point the reasons behind long hour outages so they can be fixed.”Set up a fortnight ago, the feeder monitoring committee is maintaining exhaustive daily logs for every single 11 kV and 33 kV distribution line, recording both the frequency of trips and the total downtime incurred. A dedicated report is being generated for any feeder where supply remains disrupted for over an hour.Under this newly adopted protocol, power grid management is shifting from a purely complaint-driven system to a data-backed review process. The analytical approach will help pinpoint whether supply breakdowns stem from feeder faults, transformer glitches, transmission grid failures, or local distribution bottlenecks. Lines and divisions showing chronic underperformance will be flagged for swift remedial action.Highlighting the long-term benefits of the initiative, Singh added, “Once we are able to highlight the major causes for tripping and outages, we will be able to find long term resolutions. Also, with regular monitoring, the field level officers will also be more alert and ensure that timely repairs are being made, thus ensuring better power supply.”
