Jamshedpur: Lanes and streets, which fall under the Jamshedpur West assembly constituency and lack adequate lighting, would soon be illuminated with solar LED streetlights as the Jharkhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (JREDA) has begun installation of 500 solar LED streetlight units under the second phase of the project.In the first phase, 750 solar LED lights were installed across the constituency in 2025. The second phase would add another 500 lights, while further installations would be carried out in phases based on local requirements.“Priority would be given to areas that are outside the streetlight coverage of the Tata Steel Utility Infrastructure and Services Ltd (TSUISL) or the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) and remain poorly lit after dusk,” MLA Saryu Roy said on Monday.Many lanes and intersections in areas that are outside the jurisdiction of the two companies plunge into darkness whenever DVC power supply is disrupted. The initiative would not only improve public safety and convenience but also promote the use of renewable energy. Increased dependence on solar power is expected to reduce electricity consumption from conventional sources and generate long-term savings in govt expenditure, he stated.Urging residents to report issues related to solar LED lights, sanitation and other civic amenities through his office phone number and messaging platform-based helpline number, 8877537777, the MLA stressed, “Complaints can be forwarded to the authorities concerned for timely action.”
