Patna: A threat email sent to Patna Civil Court on Friday triggered a security scare after the message, purportedly from the Khalistan National Army, claimed a city resident, AMB Verma, was responsible for the killing of a Khalistani activist Nirjhar and threatened to shoot Verma 400 times. The email was received on the official ID of the district and principal district and sessions judge, Patna.The message initially led to rumours of a bomb threat, prompting evacuation of the court premises, closure of the main gate and a search operation. Bomb disposal and dog squad teams searched the complex but found no suspicious object.Town DSP-1 Rajesh Ranjan said, “A message has been passed by the Khalistan National Army. It said ‘Nirjhar Zindabad’ and mentioned information about Nirjhar’s killing. It further threatens that AMB Verma of Patna will be shot 400 times and that his body will not be found.”According to the message, Nirjhar was allegedly killed in Canada. It claimed AMB Sanjay Verma was responsible and threatened retaliation in Patna. Police are verifying the email’s contents and origin.The incident comes months after a similar bomb threat was received by Patna Civil Court in March 2026.District Bar Association vice-president Ajay Kumar Mishra said repeated threats were creating insecurity and alleged no concrete response had emerged from the administration.Advocate Dinkar Dubey said, “The court is receiving threats repeatedly. Why are strict steps not being taken in this direction? Such threats also affect the functioning of the court.”Police have tightened security at the court and are investigating the email and the identity of those behind it. Security was also tightened at Danapur court following the threat. The email raised concern among lawyers and court employees, who sought stronger security measures to prevent disruption to work.
