New Delhi: Delhi Police is likely to move Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) seeking permission to try three juveniles as adults in the alleged rape and murder of a girl in outer Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar, citing the gravity and nature of the offence, officials said.Police said an application may be moved before the board considering the nature and gravity of the offence. “All angles are being explored. The girl was stabbed around eight times,” an officer said.Investigators are also working to expedite the probe and file a chargesheet at the earliest, possibly within a week.One of the accused has allegedly told police that the girl was putting pressure on him to marry her and that he killed her over the issue. Police said the claim was being verified.Officials said investigators were considering bone ossification tests on the three accused to help determine their ages. The test estimates age based on bone development and maturity.Police are also likely to conduct an ossification test on the victim, as her family has not been able to provide documents establishing her age.According to investigators, identifying the victim initially proved difficult. Her identity was eventually established with the help of a tattoo on her hand.Police have also seized a goods-carrying tempo allegedly used in the crime. A ring-like object recovered from the vehicle reportedly helped investigators develop leads that led to the suspects.According to police, the girl had gone to meet a friend, who allegedly called some of his associates. The group then boarded the tempo, which was being driven by the brother of one of the juveniles.The accused allegedly told investigators that they had been consuming alcohol. Police alleged that the girl was sexually assaulted inside the vehicle and later stabbed multiple times. Investigators said the accused allegedly told them they killed her fearing she would report the assault.Two knives allegedly used in the crime and clothes suspected to have been worn by the accused have also been recovered, police said.
