Navi Mumbai: The local police arrested a 21-year-old college student from Worli on Friday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl with whom he was in a relationship.The case was registered by Vashi police under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Pocso Act, as the girl is a minor.Senior inspector Shashikant Chandekar said the girl is an HSC student at a college in Vashi, while the accused is pursuing graduation at the same institution.According to police, the incident took place on Thursday night when the girl was alone at her Vashi residence, as her parents had gone out to visit Ganpati mandals. Police said she had informed the accused that her parents would be away for most of the night, after which he allegedly travelled from Worli to her home.When the parents returned around 2.30am, they found their daughter in a distressed state and the accused hiding behind a bedroom door, police said. After questioning them, the parents alerted police.A medical examination was conducted at a civic hospital. Subsequently, an FIR under BNS section for rape was registered, and Pocso Act sections were invoked.The accused was produced before Belapur court on Friday and remanded to police custody for a day. On Saturday, the court sent him to judicial custody.
