Navi Mumbai: The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) team of the Navi Mumbai crime branch arrested a drug peddler by raiding his apartment in Kamothe on Sept 15 and seized 6.50 grams of heroin worth ₹1.30 lakh. During police custody remand, he revealed the names of three drug suppliers linked to a Punjab drug cartel, from whom he had procured the drugs for selling to drug addicts in Navi Mumbai. Subsequently, the three suppliers were gradually arrested from Navi Mumbai and Mumbai areas over a period of one week. Thereafter, they revealed the name of a peddler in Kalamboli to whom as well they supplied heroin, and he too was arrested on Monday.Sandeep Nigade, senior inspector of ANC, said, “Initially, we arrested a drug peddler identified as Mahesh Shivlakhan Singh (34) after raiding his apartment in Shivkalpataru Arcade in sector 17, Kamothe and seized 6.50 grams of heroin worth ₹1.30 lakhs. Singh revealed the names of three drug suppliers and we arrested Harpreet Singh alias Harry (32) from Kharghar, Jagdev Singh alias Jaggi (38) from Borivli, Mumbai and Jagpreet Singh alias Nijjar (26) from Sion Koliwada, Mumbai. The probe revealed that the trio supplied drugs even to a peddler identified as Kariyathil Chakala Elvin Antony (34), who hails from Kerala, was arrested from Kalamboli. All five accused are in judicial custody since Sept 21. The three drugs suppliers smuggled the narcotics by road transport under pretext of delivering goods by truck from Punjab to Navi Mumbai.
