Patna: Bihar Congress workers led by senior party functionaries took out a protest march here on Wednesday against what they described as unilateral decisions by chief election commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar in connection with the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and Election Commission’s decision-making process. The protesters demanded CEC’s resignation.Kapildeo Prasad Yadav, chairperson of the party’s state disciplinary committee, who led the march and participated in the protest near Income-Tax roundabout, alleged that Kumar had ignored objections raised by the two other election commissioners and taken decisions on his own.“It is a serious matter that the present CEC ignored the objections raised by the two other election commissioners and took decisions alone,” he said, alleging that the decisions had deprived crores of electors of their voting rights and compromised the integrity of the poll panel.Demanding Kumar’s resignation, Yadav said questions had been raised over the “constitutional credibility, voters’ rights and transparency of the election process” under his tenure.Former Congress legislature party leader in the assembly Shakeel Ahmad Khan and Sewa Dal state president Sanjay Yadav were among those who participated in the protest.
