Dhanbad: Four men, who allegedly opened fire in Wasseypur on Sept 21 which left gangster Fahim Khan’s brother and two others injured, were arrested from East Basuria police outpost area of the district after a brief exchange of fire, police said on Wednesday.One of the accused, identified as Chandan Kumar (25) and allegedly the main shooter in the incident, sustained a sustained a bullet injury in his leg during the encounter and was admitted to a private hospital. Three other accused were identified as Prince Kumar Saw (28), Amir Qureshi (23) and Jodhan Thakur (48), Police recovered firearms and ammunition from their possession.The firing incident took place near Bhuli More in Wasseypur on Sept 21 when Chandan allegedly opened indiscriminate fire. Naseem Khan alias Shanu Khan, brother of gangster Faheem Khan, was injured in the attack. Two bystanders, shopkeeper Mohammad Saddam and Kumkum Parveen, also sustained injuries. Police said Prince drove the motorcycle used in the attack.The accused were arrested in an operation which was launched following a tip-off. Four of them, who were hiding in an abandoned quarter near a mining project in East Basuria, reportedly opened fire on the police. When cops retaliated, Chandan was shot in the leg.Dhanbad SSP Prabhat Kumar said the accused were directly involved in the firing incident. “Efforts are on to trace other associates. The source of weapons used in the firing and a larger conspiracy is also being probed,” he said.Investigators are examining whether the attack was linked to the ongoing feud between Fahim and his nephew Prince Khan, who is also a gangster.
