Patna: Police have arrested 27-year-old Sanjeet Kumar for allegedly attacking two schoolgirls with a blade while they were cycling to school in Muzaffarpur’s Baruraj police station area. Police said the attack stemmed from a suspected love affair and personal rivalry.The incident took place on Sept 21 near Chaurban culvert. The girls suffered deep injuries on their right hands and one of them also sustained an injury near the back of her neck, said police.Police reached the spot soon after receiving information and launched an investigation. SDPO (West-I) Suchitra Kumari inspected the incident site, while Muzaffarpur SSP Kantesh Kumar Mishra visited the spot on Sept 22 and spoke to the girls to gather details about the incident.Based on a complaint submitted by one of the victims, Baruraj police registered the case. Given the seriousness of the case, an SIT was formed under the direction of SSP.SSP said SIT worked on both technical and human intelligence inputs and collected evidence during the investigation. “Based on the gathered evidence, Sanjeet, a resident of Kamalpur under Baruraj police station area, was identified as the main conspirator and he was arrested on Thursday,” Mishra added.According to police, the investigation uncovered substantial digital evidence indicating that the accused and one of the girls knew each other and had been friends. Police said they had communicated through social media chats and phone calls. The girl had reportedly stopped communicating with Sanjeet some time earlier, following which he allegedly suspected that she had started talking to his friend and was deliberately ignoring him.Police said this resentment and suspicion appeared to have led to the attack. SSP said, prima facie, the case appeared to be linked to a love affair and personal rivalry.Police also said another person was allegedly involved in the conspiracy and was currently absconding. Raids were being conducted to arrest the other accused, they said.
