Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Patna, has forecast widespread to scattered rainfall across Bihar over the coming days with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds likely in several parts of the state. The forecast comes as the southwest monsoon withdrawal process remains underway and multiple weather systems influence the region.The withdrawal line extends through parts of north India, while a deep depression over north coastal Andhra Pradesh is moving north-northwestwards. IMD Patna director Ashish Kumar said a depression over the Bay of Bengal was bringing moisture-laden winds to Bihar. Moderate rain is expected over the state during 48 hours, while a few northern districts may receive heavy rainfall.For Friday, thunderstorm with gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are forecast in northwest, southwest and south-central Bihar. Heavy rain is likely in Bhabua, Gopalganj and West Champaran.On Saturday, thunderstorms and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are expected in northwest and southwest Bihar, with heavy rain likely in East and West Champaran. On Sunday, the activity is likely to remain concentrated over northwestern parts, with heavy rain forecast in Gopalganj and Siwan.Patna remained cloudy with drizzle and light rain for much of Thursday.The IMD has forecast no significant change in maximum temperatures during the next two days, followed by a rise of 2-4 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures are likely to remain largely unchanged over the next five days.
