Bokaro: A 24-year-old son of a Jharkhand police assistant sub-inspector was allegedly beaten to death during a quarrel at a late-night food stall near Bandarkuppi on the Giridih-Dumri road on Thursday night. Police are probing the alleged involvement of an Ajsu-P student wing member in the killing, while the deceased was reportedly associated with the JMM student wing.The deceased, Hrithik Yadav, a resident of Rajendra Nagar in Giridih, was taken to Giridih Sadar Hospital by his friends after sustaining serious injuries. Doctors declared him dead on arrival, police said. Hrithik’s father, Musafir Yadav, is an ASI posted at Hazaribag jail, police sources said.Police said an argument broke out between Hrithik and some youths at the food stall over an unspecified issue. His friend Shubham Das, however, alleged that Hrithik and his friends were attacked without provocation.“Around 10.30 pm, I went to Bandarkuppi with my friends Raja Gupta and Hrithik. We were eating chowmein at Maggi Point when Satish Yadav arrived with around eight associates and attacked us,” Das said at the hospital.“They initially assaulted us with their hands and feet. When that did not stop them, they picked up bamboo sticks lying there and started beating us. Hrithik was beaten severely and sustained critical injuries. Despite being rushed to hospital, Hrithik lost his life,” he alleged.The incident triggered tension in the area, with JMM workers and supporters reaching the hospital and demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible. Police have not confirmed Hrithik’s organisational role in the JMM student wing.Giridih SP Bimal Kumar formed a special investigation team headed by Sadar SDPO Jeetvahan Oraon. Police raided several locations and questioned more than six people, including the food stall vendor and persons allegedly linked to the Ajsu-P student wing.“Several people are being questioned and some have been brought to the police station for interrogation. Efforts are on to identify and arrest the main accused at the earliest,” Oraon said.Police are probing the alleged involvement of Satish, a resident of Nawadih under Pirtand police station area. Teams are searching for him and others allegedly involved. Investigators are also collecting technical evidence to establish the sequence of events, identify those present and determine the reason for the altercation.Police have not announced any arrests or confirmed a political motive.
