Ranchi: Most parts of the city regained power by early Saturday after workers of the Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd (JBVNL) worked through the night to repair damage caused by heavy rain and strong winds. However, several peripheral areas remained without electricity as restoration work continued.Power supply in Ranchi had been severely disrupted since Thursday night after uprooted trees snapped high-tension wires and damaged electrical infrastructure. Namkum was among the worst affected, with four major feeders — Lali, Sidraul, Rampur and Palandu — remaining non-functional for the third consecutive day.“It has been three days without power. The inverter battery has drained out and we had to rent a generator to fill our water tank,” said Sunil Kumar, a resident.Residents of HEC said supply was restored briefly for about two hours on Friday evening before another outage that continued until Saturday noon. Several pockets of Khunti district, which falls under JBVNL’s Ranchi supply circle, also remained affected.JBVNL officials said restoration work was progressing and assured residents that supply to the remaining affected areas would be restored within a day.DN Sahu, superintending engineer, Ranchi circle, said complaints about outages continued to come in on Saturday morning, mainly because of trees falling and wires snapping during the rains.“Our teams worked through the night to restore power in the affected areas,” he said.Sahu said most feeder-level faults across the city had been fixed. “If power cuts are persisting, they are now because of local faults. Our teams are working constantly to fix them,” he added.In a statement issued on Friday, JBVNL headquarters said Ranchi and Bokaro were the two worst-hit districts after the heavy rain and strong winds. Senior officials were directed to monitor restoration work on the ground, while substation officers in the capital region were asked to remain at their locations until all feeders across the affected areas were operational.
