New Delhi: Tinted windows, wrong-side driving and helmet violations were among the offences targeted during a special enforcement drive conducted by Delhi Traffic Police across the city Sunday, with University area emerging as a key focus. Teams also checked private buses and vehicles fitted with aftermarket tinted films.Across Delhi, police issued 2,747 challans during the drive, including 900 for riding without helmets, 414 for wrong-side driving, 242 for tinted glass, 197 VOCA challans, 182 for vehicles without valid PUCC and 90 for triple riding. Five FIRs were also registered for wrong-side driving.DCP Traffic (Central Range) K Ramesh said around 113 challans were issued in University area during the drive. The operation was conducted jointly by Delhi Traffic Police, local police and PCR, he said.“In Central Range, it is happening at four places: ISBT, Karol Bagh market, DBG Road and University area,” DCP added,“Road safety is a shared responsibility. Police is also creating awareness. Along with it, enforcement is also necessary. That is why we have conducted this special drive,” DCP said.
