Kolkata: BJP national president Nitin Nabin, on his first visit to Bengal after the state unit’s organisational reshuffle, held a series of meetings Sunday with office-bearers, district functionaries, MPs and MLAs at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town, stressing tighter coordination between the party organisation, elected representatives, and the state govt.Nabin asked party workers to be more polite and responsive to people and not depend on the state govt machinery to gain access to them. “There are allegations of a section of party workers being impolite to people. That needs to change,” he said.Nabin stressed that friction between organisational functionaries and elected representatives should not create parallel power centres. The party organisation and govt, he said, needed to work in tandem to highlight the administration’s achievements.CM Suvendu Adhikari, state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya and BJP national general secretary Sunil Bansal also addressed the gathering.BJP Rajya Sabha member Rahul Sinha said: “The national president took stock of work done in Bengal during the first 150 days of the new govt and identified areas needing improvement. This serves as a roadmap for the BJP govt’s future work.”BJP also appointed new in-charges for four organisational districts ahead of Nov’s KMC polls. Tapas Mitra was named in-charge of North Kolkata, Tanuja Chakraborty of South Kolkata, MLA Deepanjan Kumar Guha of Jadavpur, and Satyapriya Chakraborty of Diamond Harbour.Sources said a BJP senior had directed the new team to form booth committees within seven days, each with 21 members, preferring local residents with a “clean image” aligned with the party or nationalist ideology. The reshuffle also saw Sarbari Mukherjee removed as Jadavpur vice-president, with Guha replacing her following controversy over her comments on recent Jadavpur University incidents.
