Ranchi: Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd (JBVNL) has intensified maintenance and upgradation of Ranchi’s power network by deploying teams to curb faults ahead of the festive days.Work is under way in Namkum, Dhurwa, Morabadi, Kokar, Doranda, Lalpur and Upper Bazar. The drive includes covering bare wires, tightening loose cables, removing tangled wires, checking and repairing transformers and feeder systems, fixing pole connectivity and carrying out cabling, officials said.JBVNL general manager Manmohan Kumar said, “The work, part of routine exercise before Puja, was supposed to start early, but got disrupted due to rain.”Gaurav Kumar, electrical executive engineer, Kokar, said, “Oct 1 to 13 has been allotted for maintenance work to address possible faults before the festival. Bare wires will be covered, loose cables tightened and pole connectivity fixed.”The utility is also preparing to meet the additional electricity demand from Puja pandals. Organisers seeking temporary supply connections can apply during the period, officials said.“For Puja pandals, connections of around 4 kW to 10 kW will be provided, depending on the load requirement,” Gaurav said. The preventive exercise will continue across the city in phases as JBVNL works to stabilise Ranchi’s distribution network before the festival crowds peak and celebrations begin in earnest. The work, however, has led to power cuts. “With the festive season approaching, customers have started coming in larger numbers. But power goes off, affecting our work,” said Deepak Jaiswal, Lalpur-based trader.
