Ranchi: Three members of the Korha gang of Katihar in Bihar were arrested on Sunday in chain-snatching cases lodged in BIT Mesra outpost and Bariatu a day before, police said.The arrested were identified as Akash Yadav alias Rangeela, Aman Kumar Yadav and Kartik Yadav alias Dinesh. Five chains were recovered from them.SSP Rakesh Ranjan said, “The accused led police to an hideout in BIT police station area. Akash allegedly snatched a pistol from a constable and fired two rounds while the three attempted to escape. Police fired in retaliation, injuring Akash in the leg.”The arrests could help solve several cases and recover stolen jewellery and arms from the gang’s local network. The three were allegedly involved in at least 40 snatching cases lodged in Jharkhand and Bihar in the recent past. In Jharkhand, they have committed similar cases in Dhanbad, Hazaribag, and Ramgarh besides Ranchi, police said.In September, Ranchi police launched an exercise to identify snatching hotspots, map routes used by offenders and strengthen surveillance in vulnerable areas, especially places frequently visited by women, ahead of the festive season.
