Patna: The CBI on Tuesday filed a closure report before a Patna court in connection with the alleged rape and mysterious death of a NEET aspirant in a hostel room, indicating it does not propose further investigation at this stage. The report was placed before special judge (Pocso Act) Rajiv Ranjan Raman, who issued a notice to the informant seeking views and objections. The matter will be heard on Oct 13, when the court will consider the report and any objections. The student, staying at a girls’ hostel in Patna, was found unconscious in her room on Jan 6. She was taken to hospital but died during treatment on Jan 11. Her postmortem report indicated sexual assault, while the FSL report detected sperm in her undergarments. The Bihar govt had initially constituted an SIT to probe the death with the initial investigation focusing on the possibility that she had died after consuming sleeping pills. The case was later handed over to the CBI following concerns over the police probe. The CBI took over the investigation on Feb 12 but no concrete results have emerged so far. It found alleged negligence by then Chitragupta Nagar SHO Roshni Kumari and Kadam Kuan officer-in-charge Hemant Jha. Both were suspended during the probe but later resumed duty after their suspensions were revoked. The court will decide whether to accept the closure report or order further investigation after considering the informant’s objections.
