17 MGMMCH students suspended for ragging, indiscipline
Each student has been fined Rs 25,000, payable within three days

Jamshedpur: Authorities of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH) have suspended 17 students for ragging and indiscipline following an inquiry by its anti-ragging committee, officials said on Tuesday.The action followed an online complaint to National Medical Commission by eight first-year students, who alleged that seniors used objectionable language, made inappropriate remarks and subjected them to mental harassment.Fourteen of the senior students belong to the 2024-25 batch and three to the 2025-26 batch. All have been ordered to vacate their hostels immediately, while their parents have been asked to collect their belongings. Each student has been fined Rs 25,000, payable within three days.The students have also been suspended from classes for 15 days. Eight have been barred from appearing for third-semester examinations beginning Oct 8. All 17 have been prohibited from representing the college in competitions for two years.The college has increased surveillance and security in hostels.
