VASAI: A 51-year-old woman from Agashi in Virar died on Wednesday morning, a day after she was bitten by a venomous snake at her home. Shaila alias Charlette Gonsalves was bitten by the snake in the kitchen around 5am on Tuesday.She was initially taken to a private hospital in Agashi and later shifted to two other hospitals after her condition worsened. She died around 1.30am on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Virar.Gonsalves lived with her husband and two daughters in Somadi, Agashi, in Virar West. After receiving first aid at home, she was taken to a private hospital in Agashi and later shifted to the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation hospital in Bolinj. She was subsequently admitted to Sanjeevani Hospital in Virar as her condition worsened.“We administered emergency treatment and gave her an injection when she was brought to our hospital. However, as her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to Sanjeevani Hospital,” said Dr Ashwini Mane, head of the civic hospital in Bolinj.Gonsalves worked at Seabird Medical Centre in Andheri, where she was involved in arranging medical insurance for people working on ships.
